How Our Journey to Home Schooling Began
Our Home School Journey
Our homeschooling journey began in August of 2017. It was not planned but we knew after having several negative instances with our public schools, it became the next step for us.
I had a gifted learner who was struggling to maintain peaceful learning during school time hours and a struggling learner who was not getting the attention that was needed to ensure her success. Both girls were at different schools, but yet it seemed they were each coming home every day with more and more instances that were not conducive to a stable learning environment. I knew we need to make a change.
But could I really teach my kids? Could I really be a full time, work from home mom who home schooled her kids?
Yes, I could.
I was always the mom who was involved in all my children’s learning. I would go beyond just the review home work, but did things like making my own quizzes and test, and giving them extra lesson or resources for the subject they were studying.
But to build my own lessons, be responsible for what they learned, and do it every day? That was a whole other story.
I was such a newbie to this whole process and even got lots of negative feedback from friends, family, and folks in the public school system when we finally decided to start homeschooling. I did lots of research, asked a lot of questions, cried a lot and doubted myself, but most importantly reached out to folks I knew who were doing it already.
And that is the resource I would like to be for you.
I am here to tell you that you can do this. And that no one knows better what your children need more than you.
